it's dragonfruit! Unfortunately the flash was a little blinding (hence the sci-fi look) but it is a delicious South Asian fruit. The insides remind me a bit of custard-apple (which I grew up eating as a child in West Africa). It's from a supermarket near Dulles in the suburban wastelands of Washington DC, which are heavily populated by immigrants and which hardly ever have street names, just strip malls, so I'll never find my way back...
If you see "posted by jif," her photo is on bottom and she posted first. The photo on top is by cls. On the other hand, if you see "posted by cls," then her photo is on the bottom and she posted first; jif is on top.
